Download Data With Facebook

Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg today told press that Facebook will now offer a new service to users, which is the ability to download and share data within groups they created. The release of this new option also comes with Facebook allowing its users to let people download all pictures, video, comments and other digital information they have uploaded to the social networking service.

In line with these new changes, Facebook will be rolling out a new dashboard to enable its users to control what they want to share with their peers.

Facebook Redesigns Safety Center

Facebook has redesigned their safety center by introducing new elements such as safety for educator, safety for teens, safety for parents and safety for law enforcers in an effort to help stop abuse and misuse of the hugely popular website.  The new safety center provides better guidelines and shows steps on how users can help protect their privacy online, hence directly helping in protecting their child and themselves, and the community as a whole from being prey to cyber bullying and other online bad acts.

Facebook currently boast over 400million users worldwide and is the biggest social networking site known to man at the moment.  It is greatly hoped that the introduction of such safety measures will decrease such bad acts as stopping them immediately is close to impossible.

WORM ATTACKS FACEBOOK

Malaysian premier tech site, Lowyat recently released a warning about KOOBFACE, a worm which had hit Facebook in 2008. For those unfamiliar with KOOBFACE, here's a brief explanation taken from the site on how the worm works:

1. Users on infected computer uses Facebook.

2. Koobface then deliver a fake message to the user's Facebook friends.

3. The message contains a link that points to a external website, who would prompt the visitors to download a file that claims to be an update for Adobe Flash player.

4. Once the file is downloaded and executed, the Koobface worm will then infects the said PC.

5. The cycle repeats.

According to the report, the worm would download malwares and block access for users to certain security sites while at the same time opening a back door to enable attackers to take over the users PC. The worm is also said to have variants in other social networking sites such as Friendster and also Myspace, so it would be greatly advised not to be extra careful when you click on any external links on these sites.

MySpace introduced MySpace Mail

MySpace has taken social networking into a new whole level by intorducing MYSpace Mail. According to a web report, MySpace Mail would be made available to all 130 million MySpace users in stages in a couple of weeks.

The e-mail service would end with MySpace users putting their username infront of '@myspace.com'. According to a statement by MySpace, the new MySpace Mail signals the readiness of MySpace to take on larger companies such as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft. At the current moment, MySpace Mail is still at it's beta phase testing, and once ready is expected to boast a lot of additional functions, most notably thier unlimited storage space.

Curently, MySpace is gaining stiff competition with Facebook, while old time favourite, Friendster is finding itself lagging behind.
